Abstract
591,556. Ball and float valves. GOLDTHORPE, H. H., and ADAMS-HYDRAULICS, Ltd. March 23, 1945, No. 7427. [Class 135] A float-operated valve for regulating the discharge of liquid from a tank &c., comprises a bell-shaped plug 1, Fig. 1, coacting with an orifice 2 in a discharge chamber 3 mounted within the tank and communicating with a discharge pipe (not shown). The plug 1, which is connected to floats 8 whereby it follows variations in the liquid level in the tank may be shaped either to maintain a constant rate of discharge irrespective of the liquid level or to vary the rate of discharge in accordance with liquid level. In a modification, the plug 1, Fig. 4, which is hollow and open at both ends, is fixed to the discharge pipe 4 and is surrounded by a cylindrical member 12 supported in the liquid by floats, so that the liquid flows from the tank, through the orifice 2 to the inside of the member 12 and thence into the top of the plug 1 to the discharge pipe.
