Abstract

631,610. Automatic liquid level control systems. ADLAM & SONS, Ltd., G., and FRIENDSHIP, K. F. M. March 11, 1947, No. 6750. [Class 38 (iv)] The level of a liquid is controlled by admitting or releasing gas under pressure to or from an enclosed space above the liquid, the gas being controlled by magnetic valves actuated by upper and lower limit photocells. A housing 4, vertically adjustable by a rack-and-pinion on a sight glass 2 mounted on the side of a container 1, contains a pair of lamps, one being shown at 8, and a pair of photo-cells, one being shown at 7, in partitioned compartments, Fig. 2 (not shown). A cylindrical screen 9, movable with the housing, has upper and lower sets of slits arranged to coincide with the two sets of lamps and photo-cells. A float, or the meniscus, or the opacity of the liquid, interrupts the light or infra-red rays at the upper or lower limit to open one of the magnetic valves 11, 12 that admit or release gas under pressure, causing the liquid to be expelled, or drawn in, through a pipe in the base of the container to restore the liquid level.
