Abstract
688,581. Gauge glasses. COPELAND, J. C. Aug. 19, 1952 [May 19, 1951]. No. 201/51. Class 123 (i). A liquid-level gauge glass, adapted to be connected to one of a plurality of, for example, oil-fuel tanks N, O, P, comprises a hollow fabricated metal column A which is provided with glass panels C, is illuminated by a lamp E protected by a plate glass disc F located at the top thereof, and is fitted at the side with a hinged plate K having graduated capacity scales corresponding to each of the tanks. The bottom of the gauge is connected through a cock H to a junction J between the suction of an oil pump R and a pipe L which is common to all the tanks and is connected to the latter through valves M, so that by opening the cock H and any one of the valves M the liquid level in the corresponding tank may be determined from the appropriate scale on the plate K. A metal disc T is located on each of the operating spindles Q of the valves M so as to close a switch U when a valve M is opened, the switch controlling a pilot light V indicating or illuminating the relevant calibration scale.on plate K and also a second light W adjacent to or remote from the open valve.
