Abstract
749,072. Supplying fuel to burners. WEBB, H. W. B. April 21, 1954.[May 14, 1953], No. 13497/53. Class 75(1). Apparatus for controlling the supply of liquid fuel to a liquid fuel burner in accordance with the pressure of the main or secondary air supplied to the burner comprises a chamber 1 having means such as the overflow pipe 2 for maintaining the liquid fuel at a substantially constant level OL, the chamber having an outlet duct 6 opening below the constant level OL and connected through a metering. orifice or valve 14 to a burner FB located below the level OL so that even when atmospheric pressure only is exerted on the free surface of the liquid in the chamber 1, a pilot supply of fuel will pass to the burner, this supply being increased as the pressure of the main or secondary air acting on the fuel in the chamber 1 increases. The outlet duct 6 is connected to the burner by a pipe 7 containing an electrically, operated shutoff valve 16 and a valve controlled metering orifice 14. Secondary air in a chamber CC surrounding the burner is admitted to the top of the chamber 1 by a pipe 12 and liquid fuel from a reservoir 13 is supplied by a pump FP to the chamber 1 through a pipe 9. The lower part of the chamber 1 has a transparent wall 17 and any sediment in the chamber may be drawn'off through a normally closed cock 18. The constant level is maintained by an overflow pipe 2, connected to an external leg 2b having an air vent 2c which is situated high-enough to prevent air from being blown right through the overflow pipe under the maximum pressure of secondary air. A pipe 4 connected to the leg 2b below the air vent leads excess fuel back to the reservoir 13. The valve 16 may be arranged to close automatically on failure of any portion of the apparatus. By adjustment of the level OL and the orifice 14, the appropriate fuel flow for different air pressures may be obtained
