951,043. Fuel injection into blast furnaces. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. Jan. 3, 1963 [Jan. 12, 1962], No. 363/63. Headings F4B and F4T. A device for introducing fuel into the tuyere of a blast furnace comprising at least one guide pipe fixed in, and leading through the cooling jacket of the tuyere and a flexible and removable fuel pipe leading through the guide pipe and connecting with an exchangeable nozzle which extends beyond the inner wall of the tuyere. As shown at Fig. 1 a tuyere 1 has, extending through its cooling jacket 2, a guide pipe 4 containing a flexible fuel pipe 7 which connects with the nozzle 9 at the conical support 8, said support being held in its conical seating by the action of the spring 10 and a nut 11. The nozzle 9 is screwed into the support 8 and extends substantially to the axis of the tuyere 5. Another embodiment, Fig. 2, has the fuel pipe in the form of a helical coil within the guide tube 4 and the externally threaded nozzle 9, the pipe being held in compression against the internal conical portion of the nozzle 9, Fig. 3 (not shown), by the disc between the coupled flanges 12 and 13.
