[Also in Division F3] A resiliently loaded device, particularly for steadying loads to be released from aircraft, comprises a pad 16 for engaging the load, the pad being carried by and movable relatively to a thrust piece 5 which is adjustably mounted in a support 2, and a resilient member mounted between the pad and thrust piece. The relative movement is limited by co-operating abutments. In the construction shown the pad 16 and its mounting block 6 are provided with cooperating, part spherical surfaces to allow the pad to tilt with respect to the mounting block, these surfaces being held in sliding engagement by a bolt 18, nut 19 and spring cup washer 20 assembly. The mounting block 6 possesses a cylindrical portion 11 which is slidably received in the thrust piece 3, rotation of the block and the pad carried thereby being prevented by pins 7 and 21 respectively. The thrust piece 5 may be locked in position either by a cotter pin 26 or by the projections 27 of washer 20 seating in serrations formed in the top surface of the thrust piece. The resilient member consists of Belville washers 12 acting on an anti-friction bearing 13 and the abutments the lower face of the thrust piece and the face 25 of the block 6. After the abutments have engaged, the thrust piece may be locked ir position or unscrewed by a small amount to decrease the resilient loading, a pointer, clamped between the nut 19 and washer 20, being provided in the latter case to indicate the amount of unscrewing (Fig. 2, not shown).
