Abstract

950,139. Cooling discharge apparatus. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Jan. 5, 1962 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 488/62. Heading H1D. [Also in Division F4] A vapour cooling system for a high power electron tube 1 comprises a massive upwardly extending anode 2, upwardly extending channels 3 disposed in the anode and open at their tops and bottoms, a liquid container 6 adapted to inject a cooling liquid into the channels through their bottoms up to a predetermined level, and a vapour chamber 5 for collecting the vapours escaping from the channels through their tops when the tube is operating and the heat of the anode brings about an ebullition of the liquid, the liquid container being in contact only with the bottom of the anode while the entire outer wall of the anode is left in direct contact with the outer atmosphere. The cross-section of the channels increases progressively from the bottom to the top, and a tank is provided around the anode with a liquid-tight seal 9 between the tank and the liquid container, such that the valve may be removed without closing the liquid input valve. Systems are described whereby the liquid supply may be of the gravity feed type or pressure operated by the use of a pump.
