Abstract
950,109. Two-part couplings; holders for thermionic valves. UNITED INTERNATIONAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION. May 8,1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 16705/61. Heading H2E. A socket contact comprises a first portion 11 of generally U-shaped construction and a second connected portion 12, also of generally U-shaped cross-section, having a pair of opposed resilient legs 14, 15, for snugly receiving a pin, the legs extending parallel to the limbs of the two portions 11, 12. Portion 12 has opposed ears 21, 22, extending outwardly from and generally perpendicular to legs 14, 15, said ears being adapted to engage one side of an insulating supporting base while the upper edges 23, 24 of the neighbouring outwardly-bent ends of limbs 16, 17 of portion 11 engage the other side of the supporting base. The other ends of limbs 16, 17 are provided with slots 25, 26 and sloping surfaces such that the contact may be inserted in a printed circuit board until edges 27, 28 rest on the top surface thereof. Portion 11 of the contact may be bent away from portion 12, and a number of such contacts may be arranged in a supporting base 42, Fig. 8, to form a valve holder, which can be inserted into a printed circuit board 47. A tab 41 on the socket contacts may provide a snap action effect on insertion. The socket contacts may be insulatedly mounted in a straight line, oriented at 90 degrees to one another and with alternate contacts parallel so as to form a compact arrangement (Figs. 10-13, not shown), for example providing a transistor socket or a socket for accommodating a component comprising an interstage coupling network.
