Abstract

915,706. Two-part couplings; plug-boards. AMP Inc. June 12, 1961 [June 27, 1960], No. 21080/61. Class 38 (1). An electrical socket for receiving a test probe comprises an insulating housing H containing a ferrule 10 having internal resilient means to facilitate good contact with the probe when the probe is inserted in the socket, and an opening 40 in the housing providing access for the probe into the ferrule and means for securing the socket to a printed circuit panel. In the embodiment shown the ferrule 10 has two longitudinal slots forming an inwardly bowed metal spring 12 to contact the probe T (Fig. 12, not shown) when it is inserted in the socket. The ferrule 10 has two legs 20, 22 which are bent at right-angles to the longitudinal axis of the ferrule, through openings 36, 38 in the housing H, and which are V-shaped to facilitate dipsoldered connection to a printed circuit panel (Fig. 14, not shown). In further embodiments (Figs. 4-11, not shown) the ferrule has only one leg for connection to the panel but the housing H is secured to the panel by a pair of legs independent of the ferrule which in one case pass through the body of the housing and in another straddle the housing. Several panels carrying test sockets may be arranged in superposed relationship, with the sockets aligned along adjacent edges.
