Abstract

1,168,935. Connectors. AMP Inc. 23 April, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 19000/68. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] An electrical connector receptacle 10, intended primarily for use with printed circuits, is formed in one piece from sheet metal, and has a flat base 11, a curved spring portion 12 at right-angles to the base, and a support portion 16 which may be either at right-angles to it (as illustrated) or in the plane of the base Fig. 6 (not shown). Crimping ferrules 19 and 21 are provided for connection to a supply wire. A mating contact, e.g. a printed-circuit board, is inserted in the direction A and held in position against the support 16 by the spring 12, which is bent back on itself to form a closed loop. Other embodiments may provide stop means to limit the entry of the mating contact (Figs. 4, 6, and 7), not shown); strut for the support part (Figs. 4 and 11, not shown), a cut-away portion in the spring to improve contact (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown); or an uncompleted loop (Figs. 9-11, not shown). The metal used may be brass or phosphorbronze. A printed circuit edge connector is also described (Fig. 5, not shown) in which the receptacle 10 is held by means of the locking lance 17 in a housing having an aperture for receiving a printed circuit board. In another application (Fig. 3, not shown) a switch mechnism is incorporated into the edge connector, (see Division H1)
