Abstract
949,780. Reactor control rods. SIEMENS -SCHUCKERTWERKE A. G. March 21, 1960 [March 21,1959), No. 10010/60. Heading G6C. In a nuclear reactor control device, the casing 6, mounted in the reactor core, contains the radial members 1, and the shaft 7, which supports members 2, may be rotated so as to alter the relative dispositions of 1 and 2. The members have reaction absorbant layers 3 and fissionable layers 4 and 5. Rotation of 7 may effect screening of the absorber by the fissionable material in the screening of the fissionable by the absorber material so as to alter the reactor reaction distributions. In other embodiments, not shown, the members may be set transversly to the cylinder longitudinal axis and control is effected by moving the rod 7 longitudinally. In a further embodiment the members are disposed as helices within the casing and the relative movement is effected again by longitudinal displacement of 7. Cooling fluid passes through the casing 6.
