Abstract

949,477. Dynamo-electric machines. LYON NICOLL Ltd. Aug. 22, 1962 [Aug. 22, 1961], No. 30258/61. Heading H2A. A dynamo-electric machine comprises a hollow outer member 3 consisting of an assembly 5 of elements constituting the stator of the machine embedded within a moulded block of synthetic resin 4 and a rotor 1 enclosed within the outer member, the outer member also including an end-plate 6 having an aperture not smaller than the maximum cross-section of the rotor and through which the rotor is inserted to its position within the outer member, the aperture thereafter being fitted with a detachable cover-plate 7. The cover-plate 7 which is secured to the plate' 6 by screws is provided with a bearing for the rotor shaft 2 which may be a thrust bearing as shown, or a simple journal bearing. In the arrangement shown the shaft 2 drives a pump through journal bearing 13, holes in the lower end-plate 12 permitting the flow of liquid through the motor, e.g. for cooling, being covered with gauze 10. Epoxy or acetal resins or polytetrafluorethylene may be used for the moulded block 4. Specification 949,476 is referred to.
