Abstract
949,245. Feeding webs. COATES SMITH Ltd., VITA-TEX Ltd., and DETEXOMAT Ltd. Oct. 4, 1961, No. 35745/61. Heading B6B. [Also in Divisions D1 and G1] The take-up means for a warp-knitting machine 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), includes a take up roll 5 and tensioner means 21 at each edge of the fabric web F to prevent transverse shrinkage and curling at the edges as the fabric web moves away from its line of fabrication 2, Fig. 2, in the machine. Each tensioner means comprises a body 22 clamped with pivotal adjustment on a support tube 23 clamped parallel to the line of fabrication 2 between two brackets 24. The body 22 carries idler rollers 25, 25<SP>1</SP> and a guide 26, a pin-carrying belt 27 being trained over the idler rollers, through the guide and over a roller 3. The edge of the fabric web F runs over the floor 28 of the body 22 and is engaged by the pins of the belt 27 until disengaged therefrom by a release prong 29. Idler roller 25<SP>1</SP> is adjustably mounted as a jockey wheel to tension the belt 27. An idler pin wheel 31 is rotatably mounted on an adjustable bracket 32 and is inclined to the direction of travel of the fabric web, Fig. 3. The pin wheel being located close to the line of fabrication 2 serves to counteract any tendency for the fabric web to shrink transversely as it leaves the line of fabrication. A photoelectric scanner 13 (see Division G1), situated between the tensioner means and the line of fabrication acts to give an alarm and/or stop the machine on detection of a fault, such as a broken thread, in the fabric web. The photoelectric scanner 13 may be replaced by any other suitable fault detecting means.
