Abstract
948,802. Knitting machines. G. BILLI, and V. LUCHI. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 15, 1960], No. 4808/61. Heading D1C. A yarn severing device for cutting the yarn extending between a raised yarn guide 2 and the needles 1 of a rotat cylinder knitting machine comprises a first flat ring cutting element 15, supported on a stationary cover 3 and frictionally driven by a rotary plate 5 carrying welt hooks 6, and a second co-operating cutting disc 21 substantially at right angles thereto. The disc 21 is spring pressed on to, and rotated by the ring 15 and has a recessed inner face into which the cutting edge of the ring extends. The yarn is severed at a zone A close to the needles when the appropriate guide 2 is raised and the severed yarn from the guide is held by a suction nozzle 8 or mechanically. The cutting ring 15 may be positively rotated if desired and the disc 21 may be independently rotated. The ring 15 may be replaced by a disc similar to disc 21 and also supported on the cover 3. The disc 21 may be set obliquely to provide a single cutting point and may be adjustable to provide for cutting point and may be adjustable to rotation of the needle cylinder.
