Abstract
Solids such as sand, a -aluminium oxide, aluminium oxide gel or silica gel are heated and conveyed upwards, in a conduit, by combustion gases from a burner opening in the conduit and spaced below the supply point of the solid at a distance 1-5 times the diameter of the conduit at the point where the solid is admitted, the conduit in the region of the burner having no refractory lining. The heated solids may be heat carriers and catalysts. Sand of a particle size of 0.5-1.2 mm. may be heated in a vertical conduit and passed by way of a supply container to a reaction chamber from which, somewhat cooler, it is returned to the conduit, through a ring of slits, for reheating.ALSO:Solids such as sand, a -aluminium oxide, aluminium oxide gel or silica gel are heated and conveyed upwards, in a conduit, by combustion gases from a burner opening in the conduit and spaced below the supply point of the solid at a distance 1-5 times the diameter of the conduit at the point where the solid is admitted, the conduit in the region of the burner having no refractory lining.
