Abstract

The process of heat treating pellets of fine-grained ores or other mineral solids, described in the parent Specification, is modified in that the time during which the pellets are exposed to a high temperature is increased by increasing the height of the heating zone from 2 feet to 8 feet. The solid fuel content of the pellets is limited to 0.25 to 1.25 per cent, the temperature of the heating gas is 2300 DEG -2550 DEG F. and the ratio of preheated air which has passed up through the whole column to gaseous combustion mixture introduced at an intermediate level ranges from 7:3 to 11:9.
