948,456. Preserving ice-cream mixes. NEILSONS GAIETY Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 24762/60. Headings A2B and A2D. [Also in Divisions A4 and B8] Ice-cream is hardened in the factory at low temperature e.g. -10‹F. to -30‹F. so that it can be stored for prolonged periods, e.g. in a mobile van, at normal cold storage temperatures e.g. 0‹F. to -15‹F., if necessary, before being tempered to a point between 15‹F. and 24‹F. to produce a soft dispensable mix. The ice-cream is hardened and tempered in containers and for dispensing is charged therefrom into a pressure vessel 1 (a cone extension 2 thereto being removed for this purpose) having an attached metering valve 3 and enclosed within an insulating casing (not shown). A pressure tight cone 14 to the vessel 1 is clamped in position by a clamp 11 and has an inlet valve 12 for compressed air which exerts pressure on a piston or plunger 18 in the vessel to force the ice cream into the metering device 3. The latter comprises a valve body 25 having an inlet 27 and an outlet 37, and a partially rotatable metering cylinder 28 enclosing a piston 31 operated by a handle 35. In operation the handle 35 is twisted to align an outlet port 36 in the cylinder with inlet 27 and then pulled to fill the device with ice-cream. The handle is then twisted and pushed to dispense the ice cream via the aligned port 36 and outlet 37.
