Abstract
608,018. Liquid-dispensing pumps. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 14, 1946, No. 4638. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1945. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A pump for delivering flavouring syrups in an automatic carbonated - drink dispensing machine is operated by the carbon dioxide under pressure supplying the water carbonator. The carbon dioxide is applied to the exterior of the upper of a pair of liquid-filled rubber cells 55, 56 which communicate with one another through a metering passage 60. The lower cell 56 consequently expands and, through a plunger 62, collapses a cell 65 containing a charge of syrup to discharge the syrup through an outlet 26. Delivery is for a fixed time period at the end of which the carbon dioxide is cut-off, the cell 65 expands under the action of a return spring 66 and takes in a fresh charge from a surrounding reservoir 23. An electrically-operated valve controlling the carbon dioxide works conjointly with a solenoid 37 operating a two-way valve 35 controlling filling and discharging of the cell 65.
