Abstract
948,403. Reversing gearing; belt gearing. WOLSELEY ENGINEERING Ltd., and R. S. DRAKE. May 18, 1962 [June 3, 1961], No. 20115/61. Headings F2D and F2Q. Reversing gearing comprises a pair of flexible driving means, one of which couples the driving and driven members and the other couples one of the members with a third member frictionally engaged with the other one member, the driving means being clutchable to provide rotation of the driving member relative to the driven member and rotation of the two members in the same or opposite directions. A driving shaft 11 carries a V-belt pulley 13 connected by a belt 17 to one side 15 of a double pulley secured on a driven shaft 12. A friction wheel 14, rigid with the pulley 13 may engage a friction wheel 26 rigid with a pulley 27 connected by a belt 30 to the other pulley 16 of the double pulley. An idler tensioning wheel 29 is carried on an arm 28 rigid with an arm 24 supporting the double wheel 26, 27 and pivoted on a shaft 22. A second tensioning wheel (not shown) acts on the belt 17 to provide forward drive or neutral, and release of the second tensioner together with engagement of the friction wheels 14, 26 against a tension spring 31 provides a reduced speed reverse. The second tensioning arrangement and the shaft 22 may be controlled by cables from the handlebars of a cultivator.
