Abstract

885,067. Linkwork. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1959], No. 5334/59. Class 80 (3). Mechanism for reciprocating a carriage 10 along guide rails 11 comprises an endless chain 21 passing around sprocket wheels 18, 19, 20 mounted on the carriage 10, an idler sprocket 15 and a driving sprocket 13, the sprocket wheel 18 having means by which it can be locked against rotation. The sprocket 13 is driven with periodic reversal of its direction of rotation from an electric motor 14. The sprocket 18 is rotatably mounted on a stub axle 22 secured to a bracket 16 on the carriage 10 but its rotation may be prevented by clamping it between non-rotatable collars 27, 28 by means of a nut 23 provided with a handle 25. In the unclamped condition, the chain 21 idles over the sprockets 18, 19 and 20 and no motion of the carriage 10 ensues. Alternatively, the endless member may be a belt, band, rope or cable having non-slipping driving engagement with a lockable pulley on the carriage.
