Abstract

947,608. Broaching machines. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO. Ltd. May 25, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 19794/61. Heading B3L. A puller mechanism for an internal broaching machine comprises a puller body 4 surrounded by a movable spring-loaded sleeve 1 with internal toper surfaces 2 and 9. Movement of the sleeve 1 along the body 4 under the influence of spring 11 causes, by co-operation with the toper 2, a radially inward movement of puller studs 3 to engage a circumferential groove in a broach 6 to secure it to the puller. The same sleeve movement causes in co-operation with the toper 9, a radially inward movement of two diametrically positioned studs 8 which engage co-operating flats 10 on the broach so as to lock the broach in an angular direction. The broach is released from the puller by sliding the sleeve back against the spring 11. This is effected by a cam 19 actuating a roller 17 which swings a U lever 12 about its pivots on extensions 13 of the draw head 14 which effects movement of the sleeve by rollers 15 in grooves 16. Stops 21 on the machine face plate act on the levers 12 following the release of the broach to fully retract the sleeve to facilitate the insertion of another broach.
