Abstract

947,244. Emptying tanks. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. Nov. 20, 1961 [Jan. 23, 1961], No. 41456/61. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F1] Means for emptying a deep tank comprises an inner enclosure 32 extending the full depth of the tank and is movable vertically within an outer enclosure 25. The enclosure 25 is welded to the top and bottom of the tank and the enclosure 32 has a plate 36 joined thereto, which plate is bolted to the top of the tank. Motor or turbine driven pump means 42 are mounted in the lower end of the enclosure 32 and passages 54 in the enclosure allow liquid to enter through filters 58. The outer enclosure 25 has one or more openings covered by hinged flaps 64 which are operated by rods 68. As the enclosure 32 and pump means 42 are withdrawn from the tank, the flaps close to prevent the entry of liquid into the outer enclosure.
