Abstract

787,027. Centrifugal pumps. MATHESON, N. Oct. 12, 1955 [Aug. 16, 1954], No. 23778/54. Class 110 (1). A bore hole pump installation comprises an hydraulic pump-hydraulic motor unit suspended from a pipe within the bore hole lining, the motor being driven in closed circuit relationship by an hydraulic pump at the surface, and the unit is provided with an annular flexible tube the interior of which is connected to the closed hydraulic circuit, the tube effecting sealing of the unit within the bore hole lining. A bore hole pump comprises an impeller 10 driven by an hydraulic motor 9 which is driven by oil supplied through a pipe 6 by an hydraulic pump (not shown) at the surface. The oil is returned by way of a pipe 16, the space 17 between pipes 5 and 6, and a pipe 8. The pump is suspended within the bore hole lining 2 by means of the pipe 5, and is sealed to the bore hole by means of an inflatable tube 14 of rubber or the like, so that the portion of the bore hole lining above the-tube 14 can act as a rising main connecting the pump discharge 13 to a water discharge pipe. 4 The tube 14 is inflated by oil supplied through a pipe 15 from the oil discharge pipe 16. The pressure within the tube 14 due to the head of the column of oil within the discharge pipes may be augmented by a back pressure applied by an adjustable valve or, as shown, an orifice 7.
