Abstract
A pulley rim lining of V cross-section consists of 25 to 46% by weight of butadiene-acrylonitrile, 18 to 40% phenol-formaldehyde resin, 15 to 50% reinforcing fillers, e.g. silica containing small amounts of calcium silicate, 8 to 10% friction modifying constituents, e.g. yellow iron oxide, diatomaceous earth, asbestos powder, terra cariona, the lining having a C-scale Shore hardness of approximately 85 to 95. The silica reinforcing filler may be partly substituted by zinc-oxide or carbon black, and based on the weight of butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, the lining may additionally include 5% by weight of a curing agent, e.g. flowers of sulphur, 2% of a catalyst, e.g. dibenzothiazylbisulphide, 2% of an anti-ageing agent, e.g. N-phenyl-N1-cyclo-hexyl-p-phenylenediamine and include a small amount of an electrically conducting metal powder. The phenol-formaldehyde resin may be modified with hexatetramethylene.
