Abstract
A composition brake block comprises 30 to 44.9 or 70.1 to 75 per cent by weight of hard ferrous metal chiefly in the form of cast-iron particles, 8-40 per cent of asbestos and a binder matrix comprising a heat-resistant, vulcanized in situ elastomer, and containing about 60-70 per cent of inorganic fillers and vulcanizing ingredients. The elastomer may be butadiene-styrene copolymer, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer or polychloroprene. Hard rubber friction particles comprising vulcanized reclaimed rubber and/or metallurgical coke, phenol-formaldehyde or -furfuraldehyde resin, cashew nut shell oil-aldehyde resin, sulphur, barytes, litharge, graphite and lead may also be added.ALSO:A composition brake block comprises 30 to 44.9 or 70.1 to 75 per cent. by weight of hard ferrous metal chiefly in the form of cast iron particles, 8-40 per cent. of asbestos and a binder matrix comprising a heat-resistant vulcanized in situ elastomer, said binder matrix containing about 60-70 per cent. of inorganic fillers and vulcanizing ingredients. The elastomer may be natural rubber, butadiene-styrene copolymer, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer or polychloroprene. Hard rubber friction particles comprising vulcanized reclaimed rubber, phenolic-aldehyde resin, polymerized aldehyde cashew nut shell oil, sulphur, barytes, litharge, graphite and lead may also be added.
