Abstract

An elastomeric copolymer of butadiene and styrene having a butadiene to styrene ratio of 70/30 to 80/20, a liquid epoxidised polybutadiene of average molecular weight of from 250 to 5,000 and having an epoxy oxygen content of 4-10% and a vulcanising agent are blended together and cured. The epoxy polybutadiene preferably has an epoxy oxygen content of from 8 to 10% and is preferably used in an amount from 1 to 25 parts of better 8 to 15 parts when the vulcanising agent is a peroxide such as dicumyl peroxide or 2,5-bis(tert.-butyl peroxide)-2, 5-dimethyl hexane or when the vulcanising agent is sulphur or sulphur containing e.g. a N-N1-dithioamine, an alkyl phenol sulphide or a thiuram di- or poly-sulphide in an amount from 0.1 to 6 or better 1 to 4 parts. Vulcanisation accelerators, activators, fillers and curing agents may also be present.
