Sticks 24 for " iced lollies" are fed from a laterally spaced series of shoots 27 by pushers 28 actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 33a in timed sequence with the movement of an endless conveyer 17. The sticks 24 are thereby fed into receiving elements (which have means to grip the sticks) 18 carried by a member 22 secured to endless chains of the conveyer 17. The member 22 carrying its four vertically spaced rows of stick receiving elements 18 passes eventually to a withdrawal station 5 where a projection 50 on the holder 22 engages a switch 49 to stop the motor 34 of the conveyer 17. A stick holder 6 is then lowered and it has apertures which engage the sticks in the elements 18 of the holder 22 and thereby removes them from the elements 18. Next the holder 6 is raised to remove the sticks and a projection 51 engages a switch 52 to start the motor 34 again. The holder 6 transfers the sticks to a mould in which the " lollies " are to be frozen. Instead of the elements 18 of each holder 22 being loaded one row at a time as shown, all the elements 18 may be loaded simultaneously. Instead of the endless chain conveyer shown a reciprocating transfer may be effected between the shoots 27 and the holders 5.
