Abstract
<PICT:0945308/C3/1> <PICT:0945308/C3/2> In a process for the oxidizing pretreatment of pulverized caking fuel, prior to its degasification, in suspension, an oxidizing agent, e.g. air, and a carrier gas including a combustible gas, e.g. coal gas, are supplied separately to the bottom of an oxidation chamber 1 and partially burnt and the pulverized fuel is introduced at, or close to, the zone where the partial combustion of the carrier gas is substantially completed. The fuel is heated before introduction. The carrier gas and oxidizing agent are heated to close the ignition temperature before being introduced tangentially into the chamber 1, and the fuel is injected centrally into the eddy of both so produced. The chamber 1 has a cylindrical portion 3, a nozzle tube 5 introducing fuel extending through the base 13 thereof and ducts 4, 14 introducing carrier gas and oxidizing agent, respectively. A degasifying chamber 2 is directly above the chamber 1, which in a modified form has no lining.
