A one-piece carton having a leak-proof and sift-proof closure comprising hinged side and end flaps 14, 13, respectively, and corner elements 15, is characterised in that each element 15 is integral with a flap 13 and with a flap 14, is coated on its surface with a heat-sealable moisture resistant adhesive substance and is arranged to be folded relative both to a flap 13 and a flap 14 and also heat sealed to a flap 13 or 14 while the flaps 13 are heat sealed or otherwise secured to the flaps 14, the sealing and securing being effected within the confines of the bounding edges of each end of the carton. To close the end of the carton formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1, the flaps 13 are folded down and elements 15 are folded about hinge lines 16 and heat sealed to the flaps 14 which are then folded down and secured to each other by heat sealing or other adhesive, the free edges of the flaps 14 abutting when the closure is completed. In a modification, Fig. 4, the end flaps 13a are folded outside of the side flaps 14a and the elements 15 are secured to the flaps 13a which are finally folded down and secured. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the blank of Fig. 1 is modified in that the inner side flap 14b has slots 19 to receive a tab or tongue formed by notches 20 on the outer side flap 14b. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 8, flaps 14c are scored at 21a and the corner elements are situated between the lines 21a and scored lines 21. The flaps 14c are folded inwardly, end flap 13d is folded down and end flap 13c lies outermost. In a further embodiment, Fig. 11, the end flaps 13 are folded inwardly, Fig. 12, side flap 14k is folded down and side flap 14m lies on the outside.
