944,500. Controlling reactors. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. Sept. 12, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 34816/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading G6C. Control of a nuclear reactor is effected by a neutron absorbing curtain which surrounds the reactor containment vessel and which may be extended vertically downwards to cover the external vertical surface of the vessel. The curtain may be formed of separate units each of which winds on to a drum in the manner of a roller blind. Each unit is formed of cadmium elements flexibly interlocked together and the curtain may be extended downwards by a weight hooked to its free end. Each unit is rewound by springs mounted in the drums which support the unit.
