Abstract
944,170. Electromagnetic couplings; cooling dynamo-electric machines. RHEINSTAHL HANOMAG A.G. Feb. 23, 1960, No. 6247/60. Heading H2A. An electromagnetic clutch, particularly for driving a fan, consists of a field coil 5 mounted on a stationary magnetic former 1 surrounded by a driving rotor 2 and a driven rotor 3. the amount of slip depending on the exciting current. The inner rotor 2 comprises two magnetic rings 6, 8 separated by a ring 7 of non- magnetic material, e.g. bronze or aluminium bronze. Embedded in the outer surface of rotor 2 and the inner surface of rotor 3 are axial copper rods with longitudinal grooves in their outer surfaces which serve as cooling channels. An air inlet duct 12'in rotor 3, blades 13 on rotor 2, and outlet ducts 14 are provided to cool the internal parts of the clutch. A fan 16 is fixed to the bottom of rotor 3.
