In an oil stove in which an annular wick 11 is axially adjustable between inner and outer burner tubes 12, 13, an L-section neoprene sealing ring 18 has a horizontal portion 20 which closes the annular space between the outer tube 13 and the wick 11 and a vertical portion 21 which closes the annular space 17a between the outer tube 13 and a wick carrier 14. The sealing ring 18 prevents oil from escaping through the annular spaces should the stove be overturned and is secured to the upper portion of the wick carrier 14 by rivets 19. The wick carrier 14 has inwardly-directed prongs (not shown) which impale the wick 11. The wick 11 is raised or lowered by rotating a pinion 15 engaging rack teeth 16 on the carrier 14.
