Abstract
943,252. Fluid heating systems. E. GREEN & SON Ltd. Feb. 18, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 5612/59. Headings F4A and F4S. Air, feed water or other fluid is heated by heat from waste furnace gases in at least two stages 1, 2 between which the fluid receives further heat in an interstage heater 3. The latter may be heated by steam or other fluid from an external source, or by a burner or it may utilize a circulating liquid itself heated by the waste gases (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The -arrangement is such that the gas swept surfaces of the first stage 1 are maintained above the minimum temperature at which moisture condensation and consequent corrosion can occur, and the gas swept surfaces of the second stage 2 and subsequent stages are maintained above the lower limit of a higher temperature range (said to be between 220 and 260 F.) within which corrosion also occurs. The heat exchangers 1 and 2 may be either the plate or tube type.
