Abstract

942,998. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. LEUNA-WERKE WALTER ULBRICHT VEB. March 23,1960 [April 6,1959], No. 10293/60. Heading G3P. A fluid-pressure actuated diaphragm 2, Fig. 1, is coupled to an element, e.g. a valve to be adjusted, by a member 4 provided with a rack portion engageable by a pinion 9 integral with an axially movable clutch-part 10 that co-operates with a fixed clutch part 11 having teeth meshing with a worm 12. Upon failure of the fluid supply a locking diaphragm 6 is moved leftwardly by a spring 7 whereupon the pinion 9 is carried into engagement with the rack and the clutch parts abut so that the member 4 is held in that position but may be operated manually or by some other means from the worm 12. In a modification, fluid is supplied to the control system via a reducing valve 16, Fig. 2, whilst the pressure in the conduit 1, which opens to the diaphragm 2, is controlled by a regulator 14; the pressure in the control system is sensed by a measuring device 15. A bellows 13 supplied with fluid through a restriction 13a has a pair of bleedoff nozzles with which co-operates an obturator 13c carried by the member 4 so that during normal operation the pressures in conduit 1 and bellows 13 are equal, which pressures are conveyed by pipes 13d to a relay 18. The latter is also connected to pipes 14a, transmitting pressures from the regulator 14 and measuring device 15, and a pipe 16a leading from the reducing valve 16. The locking diaphragm is supplied with fluid from any source by a conduit 5 from another reducing valve 19, which conduit 5 is connected to a valve 17 actuate by the relay 18. The pressure in pipe 16a is balanced in the relay by a spring whilst the pressures in pipes 13d and 14a balance each other, any failure or malfunctioning causes operation of the relay 18 and hence the valve 17 whereby fluid is exhausted from the conduit 5 and the locking diaphragm actuates the means to arrest the member 4; the latter may then be manually controlled if desired.
