Abstract
Water to be purified is normally forced through a water-softening treatment chamber 6 by a pump 5 of capacity greater than the maximum rate of flow from an inlet pipe 1 to an outlet pipe 2 resulting in excess flow being recycled through a valveless by-pass 4 in the direction of arrow B, and in the event of blockage of chamber 6 the by-pass 4 allows uninterrupted flow from pipe 1 to pipe 2 under the prevailing pressure head and in the directio opposite to arrow B. Valves 7 allow the chamber to be isolated during cleaning or replacement. <PICT:0942992/C1/1>ALSO:<PICT:0942992/C3/1> Carbon-laden gas from an oil gas generator 8 is normally forced through a filter 6 before passing to a reservoir 9 by a fan 5 of capacity greater than the maximum rate of gas transfer from 8 to 9 resulting in excess gas flow being recycled through a valveless by-pass 4 in the direction of an arrow B, and in the event of blockage of the filter 6 the by-pass 4 allows uninterrupted gas flow from 8 to 9 under the pressure head prevailing in generator 8 and in the direction opposite to the arrow B. Valves 7 allow the filter 6 to be isolated during cleaning or replacement.
