Abstract
Cobalt and chromium complexes of azo dyes are prepared by treating with a chromium- or cobalt-yielding agent a monoazo compound of formula <FORM:0941878/C3/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group, x is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical which may be substituted with non-water-solubilizing groups, y is -CO2- or -SO2-, z is a simple link when y is -CO2-, or a simple link or an -NH- or -N(alkyl)- group containing 1-3 carbon atoms, when y is -SO2-, arylene is phenylene or naphthylene and the nucleus A and the arylene radical may contain further non-water-solubilizing groups or in treating a mixture of two or more such monoazo compounds or a mixture of at least one monoazo compound of the above formula and one or more metallizable mono- or dis-azo compounds. The metallization is carried out in the usual manner and preferably using such proportions of metal and azo compounds that 1 : 2-complexes are obtained. The complexes may be used to dye wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamides in green, blue, grey, brown and black shades. The complexes soluble in organic solvents may be used to dye cellulose acetate in the mass (see Division B5). Homogeneous and mixed complexes are described in examples and tables.
