Abstract

A pigment which is the calcination product of a combination of aluminium and vanadium compounds contains from 0.5 to 50 (preferably 5 to 20) parts by weight of vanadium expressed as V2O5 and from 50 to 99.5 (preferably 80 to 95) parts by weight aluminium expressed as Al2O3. The compounds may be chosen from aluminium hydroxide, alumina, aluminium sulphate, ammonium aluminium sulphate, aluminium nitrate, vanadium pentoxide and ammonium metavanadate. The aluminium compound and the vanadium compound are mixed and calcined from 1400 DEG to 2700 DEG F. Conventional fluxes such as sodium fluoride, sodium chloride, aluminium fluoride, potassium nitrate, lithium carbonate and boric acid may be added to the batch compositions. Examples of enamels are given suitable for coating sheet steel.ALSO:A pigment which is the calcination product of a combination of aluminium and vanadium compounds contains from 0.5 to 50 (preferably 5 to 20) parts by weight of vanadium expressed as V2O5 and from 50 to 99.5 (preferably 80 to 95) parts by weight aluminium expressed as Al2O3.
