Abstract

A yellow pigment for ceramics and enamels comprises a calcined mixture of 53 to 98.6% by weight of stannic oxide or a mixture of stannic oxide with one or more of the oxides of zirconium, silicon and aluminimum, 0.2 to 20% by weight of titanium dioxide, 1 to 12% by weight of vanadium pentoxide, and 0.2 to 15% by weight of elemental tellurium. Silica and/or zirconium oxide when present constitute at most 20% by weight of the mixture, and alumina at most 5% of the mixture. The composition may also include up to 5% by weight of tungsten trioxide and up to 1% by weight of antimony trioxide. The composition may be obtained by calcining a mixture of the specified ingredients or a mixture in which any of the oxides is replaced by an equivalent amount of a compound which yields the oxide on calcination, at 1000 DEG to 1500 DEG C. In examples mixtures of stannic oxide, ammonium metavanadote, titanium dioxide, elemental tellurium and antimony trioxide are calcined.
