Abstract
1391547 Ceramic pigment DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 15 Aug 1972 [31 Aug 1971] 38101/72 Heading C1M A pink ceramic pigment for glazes is produced by calcining at 700-1300‹ C. a zirconium dioxidecontaining composition which additionally contains silica, a mineralizer and ion oxide, or a compound which gives iron oxide on calcining at 700-1300‹ C. (e.g. FeSO 4 , 7H 2 O), the zirconium dioxide being either the direct thermal decomposition product of zirconium silicate or such a product from which some or all silica has been removed. Zirconium dioxide-containing materials having residual silica contents of 1-4% by weight or 25-35% by weight are preferably used. The mineralizer may be sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, sodium chloride, alkali metal nitrates or ammonium nitrate. The mixture calcined may be water-free, or may contain 1-3 moles water per 1 mole of ZrO 2 . The pigment produced may be added, in an amount of 3-5% by weight, to a glaze having the composition (in parts by weight) SiO 2 54, ZrO 2 4, Al 2 O 3 9, Fe 2 O 3 0À2, CaO 4, MgO 1, Na 2 O 3, K 2 O 1, PbO 5, ZnO 4, B 2 O 3 10, and the glaze applied in aqueous suspension to a tile and fired at 1000-1100‹ C. The aqueous suspension may comprise tylose (methyl cellulose).
