Abstract
A coloured calcined titanium dioxide pigment containing 2 to 10% nickel oxide, 2 to 20% antimony trioxide and 2 to 20% aluminium oxide, the percentages being by weight. The pigment may contain sodium and potassium sulphates and fluorides. The titanium dioxide may have a particle size of 0.5 to 2.0 microns. The pigment may be prepared by drying the components and calcining them, preferably under oxidizing conditions, at 800 DEG to 1200 DEG C. The oxides may be formed in situ by incorporating salts (e.g. aluminium, nickel and antimony sulphates, antimony trichloride, and nickel nitrate) with the titanium dioxide prior to calcination. In the example, antimony trioxide, nickel oxide and aluminium sulphate are added to an aqueous slurry of titanium dioxide. The mixture is dried at 100 DEG C. and then calcined at 1000 DEG C. The pigment may be incorporated into paints, synthetic plastic material and paper.ALSO:Paper has incorporated therein a coloured calcined titanium dioxide pigment containing 2 to 10% nickel oxide, 2 to 20% antimony trioxide and 2 to 20% aluminium oxide, the percentages being by weight. The pigment may contain sodium and potassium sulphates and fluorides. The titanium dioxide may have a particle size of 0.5 to 2.0 microns. The pigment may be prepared by drying the components and calcining them, preferably under oxidising conditions, at 800 to 1200 DEG C. The oxides may be formed in situ by incorporating salts (e.g. aluminium, nickel and antimony sulphates antimony trichloride, and nickel nitrate) with the titanium dioxide prior to calcination. In the example antimony trioxide, nickel oxide and aluminium sulphate are added to an aqueous slurry of titanium dioxide. The mixture is dried at 100 DEG C and then calcined at 1000 DEG C.
