Abstract
Sulphuric acid is concentrated and desalted by admission of dilute acid to an evaporator, continuous removal of the acidic suspension, and filtering off the salts from the concentrated acid and partial recycling of the concentrated acid to the dilute initial acid solution, characterized in that the amount of concentrated acid recycled to the dilute acid is such that the salt content of the suspension in the evaporator does not amount to more than about 1000 grams per litre. An acid containing 16-22% H2SO4 may be concentrated to 63-68% H2SO4, and the salt concentration in the evaporator preferably does not exceed 700-900 grams per litre. The amount of acid added to the salt solution is equal to the amount of salt suspension drawn off from the evaporator. Salts referred to are: ferrous sulphate and sulphates generally.ALSO:Sulphuric acid is concentrated and desalted by admission of dilute acid to an evaporator, continuous removal of the acidic suspension, and filtering off the salts from the concentrated acid and partial recycling of the concentrated acid to the dilute initial acid solution, characterized in that the amount of concentrated acid recycled to the dilute acid is such that the salt content of the suspension in the evaporation does not amount to more than about 1000 grams per litre. An acid containing 16-22% by weight H2SO4 may be concentrated to 63-68% H2SO4, and the amount of solid material in the evaporation should preferably not exceed 700-900 grams per litre. The amount of acid added to the salt solution is equal to the amount of salt suspension drawn off from the evaporator. Salts referred to are: ferrous sulphate and sulphates generally.
