Abstract
1,220,323. Purifying phosphoric acid. SOC. ITALIANA RESINE S.p.A. 17 Jan., 1969 [27 Jan., 1968], No. 2988/69. Heading C1A. An aqueous solution containing phosphoric acid and phosphates is concentrated from a concentration of P 2 O 5 not exceeding 25% by weight to more than 40% by weight and is freed from sulphate present, by mixing it with a solution having a higher P 2 O 5 content, precipitating calcium sulphate from the intermediate solution which has a concentration of 25% to 40% by wt. P 2 O 5 , separating the sulphate and evaporating the solution in vacuo to attain the desired concentration. Preferably the solution having a higher P 2 O 5 content contains 25 to 40% by wt. of P 2 O 5 . The high concentration product solution may be recycled as part of the added higher P 2 O 5 content solution. The process is applicable to phosphoric acid solutions obtained by leaching phosphate rock and removing most of the sulphate present by precipitation with phosphate rock.
