Abstract

1491086 Neutral ammonium polyphosphate GEWERKSCHAFT VICTOR CHEMISCHE WERKE 2 April 1975 [2 April 1974] 13566/75 Heading ClA Neutral ammonium polyphosphate (i.e. polyphosphate free or substantially free from ammonium phosphates having a degree of condensation less than 10) is produced by condensing in the molten state at from 430‹ to 470‹ C. one or more ammonium phosphate monomers and/or oligomers to form acid ammonium polyphosphates (i.e. having a content of replaceable acid H atoms corresponding to a polyphosphoric acid content of 15 to 35% by wt.), a melt of the latter being then finely dispersed in an atmosphere comprising at least 94% by vol. of NH 3 at 160‹ to 380‹ C. The acid ammonium polyphosphate is preferably dispersed in the NH 3 atmosphere by atomization of the melt. The neutral product has at least a 95% solubility for 1 g. in 5 ml. of water. The particles produced are generally spherical ranging in size from 10 to 90 Ám.
