Abstract

941,617. Gas meters. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. Oct. 26,1961 [Oct. 26, I960], No. 36831/60. Heading G1R. A dry gas meter 11 is housed in a gas-tight container 12 which is capable of withstanding a greater pressure differential than is the casing of the meter, the inlet and outlet connections 19, 24 to the meter passing in gas-tight relationship through the container and a gas bleed 31 being provided into the space between the meter and container to balance the pressures inside and outside the meter. The inlet and outlet connections each consists of a flexible member 20 provided to form gas-tight connection between the meter and container in the way of the inlet 19 and outlet 24; the member 20 is secured by a bolt 22 which engages a backing ring 21. The container, which is strengthened by members 25, 26, is provided with a lid 14 and a plate-glass window protected by a hinged cover 29 for the purpose of reading the meter. The meter is provided with a pair of handling brackets 32 and a purging cock 37 at the outlet. The gas bleed 31, instead of being taken to the space between the container and meter, may be taken from the inlet or outlet connection.
