A coupling comprises a tubular member 1, a split sleeve 2 having curved end parts 5 and a pin 4 having a bulbous end 6. In the coupled position the pin is pushed through the sleeve 2 expanding the end parts 5 to grip the end of the tubular member 1. The pin 4 is withdrawn to detach the sleeve 2 from the member 1. The device may be used for attaching a hook to a line, as in Fig. 4, in which two couplings are used to position a mirror 11 between a line 8 and a hook 9. In this case both the hook and the line are both connected to sleeve 2 by means of eyelets. In an alternative arrangement the line is attached to the sleeve 2 and the hook to the tubular member 1 of the same coupling.
