941,160. Illuminating systems. GRETAG A.G. April 27,1962 [May 3, 1961], No. 16238/62. Heading G2J. In an illuminating system for a projector, particularly for a film projector with an elongated rectangular gate, comprising a light source, a condenser lens located adjacent said light source and an object field, an anamorphotic optical system is located between the condenser lens and the object field, the anamorphotic optical system being arranged to produce in the place of the object field a sharply defined but anamorphotically distorted image of the condenser lens. As shown, an illumination system for efficiently illuminating an elongated rectangular gate 16 comprises a light source 10 such as a Xenon gas discharge lamp with rear reflector 24, a condenser lens 14 and an anamorphotic lens system 18, 20 for producing a sharply defined but elliptical image 22 of the lens 14. The lens 18 is shown as a cylindrical lens with vertical axis whereas lens 20 is a toric lens. Specification 696, 615 and French Specification 1, 296, 899 are referred to.
