Abstract

495,035. Optical-projection apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and EADE, S. R. May 4, 1937, No. 12723. [Class 97 (i)] Light sources which are long and narrow, e.g. high pressure gaseous discharge lamps, are used in conjunction with a system producing, at the film aperture of a projector, an image which has different magnifications in perpendicular directions. As shown, the light source 2 lies in the focal line of a cylindrical reflector 1 of elliptical section which, in conjunction with a cylindrical lens 4 having its axis of curvature perpendicular to that of the mirror, produces an image of the light source filling the projection aperture 3. The light source may be close to the vertex of the reflector, the reflector and lens 4 may be of parabolic or other curvature, and the lens 4 may comprise two or more components.
