Abstract

[Also in Division F1] Sealing of the ends of a fluid-tight can 28 surrounding the rotor of an electric motor is effected by resilient rings 31 which surrounds the ends of the can and are pressed against the end bearing supports 26 and against the can by chamfered end plates 20. The embodiment is a combined motor and pump in which part of the liquid or gas being pumped is bled from the outlet of the pump and passed via a channel 42 to the air gap from whence it returns via bearing 14 and a channel 43 in the shaft to the inlet side of the pump. The liquid or gas also serves to lubricate the motor bearings.
