Abstract

940,989. Boring mills; beds. W. KAUFFMANN, [trading as K. MARTIN [Firm of]]. Nov. 14, 1961, No. 40732/61. Headings B3B and B3T. A vertical lathe comprises a base 1, Fig. 2, and a vertical frame member 2 having guideways 4, 5, Fig. 4, for tool-rests. The latter may be of known type for copying by hydraulic means. The driving unit comprising a motor 7, Fig. 2, and change-speed box 8 drives the workspindle 3 through a belt 6. The headstock 9 supporting the work-spindle is supported by a guide 5<SP>1</SP> adjacent the tool-rest guide 5. A tailstock 10 is supported on the guide 4. The headstock and tailstock spindles may be moved by hydraulic means to clamp the work. The guideways 4, 5, for the tool-rests are arranged at a dihedral angle of approximately 30 degrees with a transverse plane which includes the axis of the main spindle.
