Abstract

1,218,300. Lathes. FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. GES. FUR. 14 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968], No. 18990/69. Headings B3B and B3T. A milling-lathe comprises a bed 1 with a headstock 2 and tailstock 3 each having a rotary driven spindle with chucks 6 and 7 for holding a workpiece, a line steady 4 mounted on the bed and adjustable in position along the bed and which is driven in synchronism with the spindles of the headstock and tailstock. The steady includes a driven ring member 8 which encircles the workpiece and carries jaws 9 which grip the workpiece for driving rotation with the chucks. The tailstock and/or headstock 2 is provided with a neck portion 15 which extends coaxially with spindle and over which the line steady can be located by sliding to either end of the bed to facilitate the removal or installation of a finished or new workpiece. Addition work supporting members 14 may also be provided. The milling cutter 13 by which machining is effected is mounted on a tool carriage 11, 12 on a bed 10 parallel to the bed 1 and is provided with independent drive motor. In the embodiment described the workpiece to be machined is a long crank-shaft where intermediate drive and support means is required.
